Data is the new oil
Data is the new oil, but unlike oil it is not a natural resource and with new devices, platforms, products and services appearing daily there is no risk to the data well ever drying up. Nor will you have to go on vast excavation trips to identify where the data is. Data has become more accessible than ever yet only a few are making any real money from it.
I think a lot of this is to do with how companies are treating their data teams. Those that connect and integrate the data team into the commercial business, keeping them closer to the customer and rapidly building and testing insights and predictions will be much more effective than those companies that keep their data teams siloed
